Key Stage 3

Pupils in years 7 to 9 have one lesson timetabled week.

At KS3 pupils follow the National Curriculum for Geography.

There are a number of key concepts that underpin the study of geography. Throughout KS3 particular attention is paid to the understanding of the concepts of place, space, scale and development. At the end of KS3 we focus upon interdependence, environment interaction and sustainable development, space, place and cultural understanding and diversity.

Pupils undertake end of unit assessments that take a variety of forms including tests, investigation work and in depth research.

Homework tasks are also set weekly and amid year and an end of year exam assesse overall progress.

Year 7:

  • Our planet
  • Maps and mapping
  • The UK
  • Africa

Year 8:

  • Population/urbanisation
  • GIS
  • Global warming
  • Asia

Year 9:

  • Development
  • The Middle East
  • Tourism

Key Stage 4

Pupils in year 10 and 11 have two lessons per week.

At KS4 pupils follow the AQA examination board for Leisure and Tourism.

In year 10 pupils study Unit 1 which focuses on understanding leisure and tourism destinations. In this unit pupils will learn about the different types of leisure and tourism destinations, how people choose a destination, the range of visitors attractions and activities, the methods available to travel to a destination and the impact of the tourism industry on the environment and the development of ecotourism.

In year 11 pupils complete the controlled assessment task which consists of an investigation task chosen from a menu of three provided by AQA. This task focuses on explaining the nature of leisure and tourism.

At the end of year 11 pupils will sit a 1 hour exam.
